Southern California’s water supply comes from a variety of sources, including Northern California and the Colorado River. This imported water is affected by unpredictable ebbs and flows in supply due to recurring droughts, environmental regulatory decisions, uncertain impacts of climate change and other factors.
The Water for Tomorrow Program is West Basin’s approach to addressing the service area’s water future by:
- Protecting the District’s existing water supply
- Diversifying and augmenting the supply portfolio
- Innovating to prepare for the future
West Basin is a demonstrated industry leader that continues to explore new methods and technologies to manage and enhance its water supply. Aligning with West Basin’s mission to provide a safe and reliable supply of high-quality water to the communities it serves, the agency seeks to increase the reliability of imported water, grow opportunities for groundwater projects and advance both potable and non-potable water reuse.
Our Programs
West Basin began recycling water in the 1990s and has invested more than $700 million in its water recycling program. Today, our system has more than 100 miles of recycled water pipeline and produces 40 million gallons of recycled water per day.
